背单词小技巧

虽然是学计算机专业吧，但是英语一直是我的一个心病。虽然专业类的单词没什么问题的，平时也会上google、stackoverflow去查写东西，但是非专业类的英语就着实很烂了。初中、高中就一直头疼，不过好在应试教育，总还是有很多考试技巧，所以高考成绩也还差强人意，130分。但是到了大学就完蛋了，没有那么大压力，所以就彻底暴露了本质了，四级考了五次，英语老师都对我无语了。我是属于那种英语/日语绝对不会翘课，而且都是做到最前排的同学（计算机的课基本都翘掉了），但是就是学不会，背不过单词。当时虽然废了不少劲，但是确实是记不住，一个单词写上几十遍下次见到任然就是陌生人，没什么办法，所以自己一直以为自己就是属于那种对语言无感的人了。

毕业五年，越来越感觉英语这个坑是跨不过去的，大概三个月前开始决定要学英语，发现了一条“捷径”，突然间明白自己为什么原来背不过单词了，对于非理性的东西，大脑本身就有排斥感。而如果把英语理性话，发现记起来还是很容易的，这里分享一下经验吧。

工具:[dicts]( )、[ youdict]( 、百词斩、笔记本。（绝非广告哈，确实是自己的体验）

我们举个几个?：

### curfew

curfew意思就是“宵禁，夜间戒严”，如果单独背诵的话，我以前的方式就是写十遍，一边念英语、汉语一边写，结果肯定是写完就忘了。

然后可以在 [curfew]( 上看到如下内容：

>在古代中国，在夜里到了某时刻，敲更人就会敲钟报时，并提醒大家小心火烛。在中世纪的欧洲也有类似做法，即到了夜里规定时刻，就会有人敲钟，提醒大家扑灭灯火，按时就寝，其目的是避免无人照看的灯火在夜里引发火灾。这种做法在古法语中被称为cuevrefeu，字面意思就是cover fire（扑灭灯火）。英语单词curfew就来源于此，并在19世纪时衍生出“宵禁”之意。

curfew：['k?fju?] n.宵禁，宵禁令，晚钟，敲晚钟时刻

这就有意思了，不仅知道了 [打更]( 的原因是什么，而且知道其实curfew的意思就是cover fire，而且从读音的角度来看，curfew、cover fire的读音也是相似的。

通过这样一个记忆，我们不仅知道这个单词的意思，还知道了这个单词背后的含义，相信可能很多英语国家的人都不一定知道这个意思吧。

### fascinating

fascinating意思就是“令人入神,使着迷”。

然后可以查到 [fascinating]( 的本体就是fascinate。

>fascinate（迷住）：古罗马人的男根之神法瑟勒斯

在西方的历史博物馆，常常可以看到一些令女士们面红耳赤的古代物品，那就是一些带有翅膀的男性的雕像。其实这是古罗马的一个著名神祇的形象。这个神祇在拉丁语中叫做“法瑟勒斯”（Fascinus），他实际上是男性的化身，因此经常以这种“飞天”的形象出现。

古罗马人把法瑟勒斯当做保护神，认为他能够辟邪驱鬼，尤其是能够保护人们不受到“邪恶之眼”（evil eye）的伤害。因此，古罗马人专门为他修建了神庙，希望他能保护罗马的平安，还制作了很多“飞天”作为护身符，挂在小孩的脖子上、士兵的武器上、凯旋回国的将军的马车上，用来保护他们不受邪灵的伤害。这种护身符也被称为fascinus。

除了能辟邪驱鬼外，古罗马人还相信这种护身符具有神奇的魔力，其中一种就是能够催眠他人。因此使用fascinus来催眠他人就叫做fascinare，字面意思就是“施展法瑟勒斯的魔力”。这就是英语单词fascinate的来源。

### charming

charming的意思就是“迷人的,有吸引力的”。

fascinating其实是很久之前背的了，charming则是这两天刚背过，而且这两个词的意思相近。我们先看一下 [charming]( ，其中可以看到：

>我们夸奖女性具有魅力时，常常使用charm（魅力）一词。但在中世纪，如果一个女性被形容为具有charm，她很有可能被人当做女巫烧死。因为，英语单词charm在中世纪不是什么好词，而是跟巫术、魔法有关的一个词。它和chant（吟唱、圣歌）、enchant（迷住）同源，来自拉丁语carmen，而carmen来自canere（唱），指的是唱念的“咒语”。charm做动词时等于enchant，表示念咒、施展魔法，从而迷住某人。到了近代，随着科学的发展，人们不再迷信巫术，charm一词所含有的迷信色彩才逐渐消失，含义逐渐演变为“魅力、魔力”。

charming：['t?ɑ?m?] adj.迷人的，可爱的，有魅力的

可以发现charming、fascinating的“迷人”的含义其实开始都是包含贬义的，只不过逐渐演化到现在的含义。

百词斩上其实也是有一些相关的释义的，只不过可能不是如 [dicts]( 上更全一点，当然其实dicts上也只是一部分，而且有的词也是没有释义的，如果对这个词的释义有兴趣的话可以直接google去查了，用百词斩其实主要是为了做归纳，其他软件是一样的。还有另外就是可以通过 [youdict]( 去找到一个词相关的词组，这里就不细说了。

把一个单词背后的缘由搞清楚了，也就是从死记硬背变为了一个推到过程，把几个单词之间联系起来，这个记忆就很容易了。
